The story of Harvest Meats starts back in 1928, in the village of Rhein,
Saskatchewan. There, Alexander Propp started making sausages using family recipes that had been passed down through several generations. In 1932, the family moved to Yorkton, and established Propp's Meat Market and Groceteria, where sausage making continued full-scale.
By the early 1950s Alexander's sons had outgrown the location. The eldest son, Edward, became company president and spearheaded the construction of an abbatoir and processing plant called Mid-West Packers, which produced Harvest-brand products.
